Pro tip: I started wrapping my brisket in peach paper after 6 hours instead of foil and it kept the bark way better.

Totally agree with @amy_anderson. Saw it first hand on some young maples I was worried about. The light color reflects just enough heat to stop the bark from cooking on the south side. Before I used it, I'd always get those long vertical splits by late July. Now the trunks look smooth and healthy right through the hottest part of the year. It's cheap insurance.

I used to think a 401k was enough, but after seeing my buddy's portfolio from just buying an S&P 500 fund for 10 years, I'm all in on index funds now.

That's awesome for your uncle. The real key is he stuck with it for years, not just the fund he picked. rubyk26 is right about picking stocks being tough. Honestly, the boring monthly habit is what makes it work, way more than trying to find the perfect investment. Time and just keeping at it beats being clever most days.

My kid asked me why our robot vacuum avoids the dog's bed

That's a good point about showing the sensor. I had a similar talk when my nephew thought my old vacuum was 'mad' at a rug. Lifting it up to show the spinning brush and the basic drop sensor helped a lot. It turns a story into a simple cause and effect thing. They get it pretty fast once you make it about physics instead of feelings.
