I used to think a 401k was enough, but after seeing my buddy's portfolio from just buying an S&P 500 fund for 10 years, I'm all in on index funds now.

My uncle showed me his Vanguard statement last month. He just put money in VOO every month and it's crazy how it adds up.

That's awesome for your uncle. The real key is he stuck with it for years, not just the fund he picked. rubyk26 is right about picking stocks being tough. Honestly, the boring monthly habit is what makes it work, way more than trying to find the perfect investment. Time and just keeping at it beats being clever most days.

Yeah, the whole "just put money in VOO every month" thing is everywhere now. I was reading this article about how most people who try to pick stocks end up doing worse than the basic index over time. It really does seem like the boring, simple way is the one that actually works for regular people.
