Tried a different flux on a stubborn PS4 HDMI port and it actually worked

I was fixing a friend's PS4 with a dead HDMI port, and I ran out of my usual no-clean flux. All I had left was this old, cheap rosin flux paste from a kit I bought like 3 years ago. I figured it was junk, but I used it anyway just to get the job done. To my surprise, the solder flowed way better and the new port went on perfectly on the first try. I guess the old stuff had a better activator for that oxidized board. Anyone else have a 'bad' product that secretly works great for a specific fix?

I spent a whole weekend trying to find my great-grandmother's wedding photo in my attic before realizing it was in a shoebox labeled 'sewing stuff' the whole time.

I just plated my 10,000th order at the bistro

I was closing up last night and checked our kitchen's order counter. It hit exactly 10,000 since we opened. That's 10,000 plates of our signature duck confit, all plated by my hands. It made me think about the sheer muscle memory now, like my hands just know the exact spot for the frisée. Has anyone else hit a big kitchen number that made you pause?

I was at the hardware store last week picking up some brackets when my neighbor, Dave, pulled me aside. He knows I install fencing. He offered me a weekend job, $500 cash, to help him put up a privacy fence at his brother's new house. The thing is, Dave's brother just opened a competing landscaping business two blocks from my main client. Taking the job feels like a direct conflict, even though it's just a one-off cash deal. I told him I needed to think about it. On one hand, it's good money and he's my neighbor. On the other, my loyalty is to my regular client who gives me steady work. It's not about a signed contract, it's about the principle. Where do you draw the line with side work when it brushes up against your main gig's interests?

Question about a pottery shard I found on a dig in New Mexico

I was volunteering on a dig near Santa Fe last spring, helping to clear a small Anasazi site. We were told to be super careful with anything that looked worked, but honestly, I thought I'd just find more of the same plain brown pottery bits. Then my trowel hit something with a clear black line painted on it. I got excited and tried to pry it up fast, and the whole piece snapped clean in two. My stomach just dropped. The site lead came over, didn't yell or anything, just quietly showed me how to use a soft brush to loosen the dirt around finds first. We glued it back together later, and it turned out to be part of a really nice bowl rim. Has anyone else messed up a find in the field and managed to fix it?

Warning: a simple wire transfer almost cost me a house closing last month

I was at the title company's office in Phoenix, ready to sign the final papers on a new place. The last step was to wire the down payment, about $45,000, from my online bank. I initiated it the day before, but at the closing table, the funds weren't there. My heart just dropped. The title agent said the wire had been flagged and sent back because the name on my bank account didn't exactly match the name on the title paperwork. My bank account is under 'Lily Singh' but the contract said 'Lily K. Singh'. I had to call my bank right there, get a supervisor, and have them re-send the wire with a note explaining the middle initial. It took two more hours of pure stress before it cleared. Has anyone else had a wire held up over a tiny name mismatch like that?
