I got it out and it worked perfectly, we finished the job in 2 hours instead of wasting a trip. That thing is like 8 years old and still holds a charge. I'm never leaving it ashore again, no matter how much my back complains. Any of you guys have a backup piece of gear that feels like a pain but always comes through?

I was browsing a thread last night where a guy said he always measures his tool offsets twice before he even touches the stock. That got me thinking about how I always rush into setups to save 5 minutes. Yesterday I took my time and checked each offset two times on a job for a local cabinet shop. The part came out perfect on the first run and I saved myself an hour of rework. Has anyone else had a similar thing where slowing down a tiny bit saved your whole shift?

I was stuck outside Laramie last January with a 2012 Freightliner that just would not start. Temperature was hovering around negative 15. A older mechanic who was passing through took one look and told me to pour a little bit of isopropyl alcohol into the fuel filter housing. It broke up the ice crystals in about 10 minutes and the engine fired right up. Has anyone else ever tried this instead of using those expensive fuel additives?

Was always skeptical about using synthetic oil in hydraulic elevators, then tried it on an old Otis in Seattle

For years I stuck with mineral oil because that's what the old timers said to use. Finally got pushed into trying a synthetic blend on a 1970s Otis unit near Pike Place Market when the mineral oil was causing too much sludge buildup. After 6 months the valves were cleaner and the oil temp ran about 8 degrees cooler. Has anyone else switched and seen the same results or had problems with seals leaking on older equipment?
