My attempt to save childhood videos almost ended in disaster
I found a stack of VHS tapes in my basement from when I was a kid, full of birthday parties and summer trips. I decided to digitize them last week as a fun project to revisit those memories. When I hooked up the old VCR, the picture was all wavy and the audio sounded like static. A friend told me that tape glue can dry out and the film inside can stick together over time. I had to carefully rewind each tape by hand to avoid tearing, which was a huge pain. A couple tapes were so bad that sections are just gone forever, which really sucks. If you have old home videos stored away, try playing them soon to see if they're still okay. Waiting could mean losing bits of your past for good.
