Caught my dog trying to bury a piece of obsidian in the backyard

I started letting my rock collection sit out after cleaning. Now my pup thinks they're his toys and I keep finding them in odd places. How do you stop your animals from claiming your geology stuff?

Remember that dogs bury things from instinct, not because they see them as toys. Your pup probably considers the rocks valuable items to hide. Store your collection in a closed cabinet to prevent access.

That instinct to bury stuff comes from wild dogs hiding food for later. Hard things like rocks might feel similar to bones or other treasures they want to keep safe. Storing your collection away just works with their natural way of thinking.

Heard my buddy's lab once buried a TV remote in the backyard. Totally fits what @joel_jones said about hard objects feeling like treasures to hide. They only found it after a rainstorm washed the dirt away.
