Hit my 500th straight day of showing up to a job I quietly hate
That number surprised me because I've been pretending to be fine for over a year now, and nobody at work has any clue I'm counting down until I can leave, has anyone else managed to hide a milestone like that from their coworkers?

Nobody at work has any clue" - man, that reminded me of my buddy Dave who secretly applied to 47 jobs while sitting in his cubicle every single day for like 8 months. His boss even gave him a "great attitude" award right before he put in his two weeks.

A great attitude award right before he quit" is absolutely wild. That's next level irony right there, like the universe playing a prank on his boss. Did Dave at least frame the award and hang it at his new job?

Man I read this study once about something called "quiet quitting" before it became a buzzword. Basically people doing the bare minimum while mentally checking out months before they actually leave. Your 500 days is impressive though. I heard on a podcast that most people burn out around day 200 of faking it. The scary part is when you get so good at pretending that you start believing your own act. That's when it gets dangerous because you might wake up five years later still in the same spot. At least you've got a number to hold onto. That keeps things real.

Oh man, that part about waking up five years later hit me HARD. I did that exact thing at my old job, got so good at coasting that I convinced myself it was fine for way too long. Setting a hard number like 500 days is smart, it keeps you from falling into that trap.
