Found out my "free" checking account actually charged me $12 a month for 8 months straight

I was looking through old bank statements from my Chase account in Atlanta and noticed a monthly service fee I somehow missed since February. What do you use to track those hidden bank fees that slip through the cracks?

Ugh that's so frustrating! But just a heads up, Chase has a few different ways to waive that fee usually if you keep a minimum balance or have direct deposit set up. Might be worth calling them to see if they'll refund some of those months since you didn't notice it.

Called Chase about this exact situation a few years back. I had an old account I forgot about and they dinged me like $90 in fees over three months. I explained I just plain missed the statements and they ended up refunding every single dollar as a one time courtesy. Just be polite and honest when you call, they're usually willing to work with you if you haven't done it before.

@the_elliot, did they make you jump through a bunch of hoops or was it pretty quick on the phone? Just wondering if it's worth trying myself.

Reminded my buddy Mike of when he called Chase about this and they waived like five months of fees for him, @stone.lisa.
