My old bread mentor changed my mind about using a scale

That old baking trick has a way of showing up everywhere once you notice it. Start measuring your coffee grounds by weight instead of scoops and the morning cup hits different every single time. Same goes for seasoning food to taste versus following a recipe's exact pinch of salt. Small shifts in precision stack up fast, whether it's dough or dinner.

Talked to an old timer at a trade show in Charlotte who said I was overplanning my dovetails

Ditch the layout lines and just let your chisel follow the scribe.

TIL about the downside of adding too much water to a slab

Might be from their humidity control packs breaking open.

That time I pulled only trash from a lake for 3 straight days

You hit it right on the head with "out of sight out of mind." It's the same reason people will dump old furniture on a back road or toss fast food bags out the window in a parking lot. They just don't want to look at the mess they make, so they shove it somewhere nobody will notice. That part about lazy people driving out there on purpose is dead on too. I've seen piles of trash in places you can't even find unless you're looking for a spot to dump stuff. It really is a shame, that pond probably had frogs and fish in it before it turned into a garbage pit.

Debate: Scripting your videos vs going off the cuff for better engagement

I heard once that people connect more with the imperfect stuff because it feels like a conversation, not a presentation.
