Just found out my tape measure has been off by 1/8 inch for years

I was measuring out some cabinet pulls in Austin last week and kept getting gaps that didn't line up. So I checked my old Stanley tape against a new one I borrowed from a buddy and sure enough, it was reading short. I had probably used that thing on a dozen kitchen jobs over the last 6 years. Has anyone else had a tape gradually drift on them without noticing?

Swapped my opinion on mobile check deposits after a scare last month

I used to think mobile check deposits were just a convenience thing and didn't really matter. Then my branch in Austin closed for a surprise renovation and I had a $1,200 freelance payment sitting in my hand. I snapped a photo through my credit union's app and the money showed up in 4 hours, not 2 days like I expected. Now I see people still driving 20 minutes to the bank just to hand over a paper check and I don't get why. Has anyone else had a mobile deposit actually clear faster than your bank promised?

That one week where every tower I touched had roaches inside

Last Tuesday I opened up a client's Dell tower and a family of roaches just scattered across my bench. I swear I screamed louder than the time I shocked myself on a CRT. Then Wednesday I find a dead mouse wedged between the power supply and the drive cage on another rig. By Friday I was wearing gloves and a mask before even touching a side panel. I think I need to start charging a biohazard fee or something. Has anyone else dealt with wildlife inside PC cases?

I finally fixed a jammed shutter on a Yashica-Mat in my kitchen

Last night I was working on a Yashica-Mat 124G and the shutter blades just froze up after I oiled them. Turns out I used way too much lighter fluid and it gunked everything. Has anyone else dealt with sticky blades from over-cleaning?

Switched from screw terminals to spring clamp connectors after 3 callbacks on the same panel in Cleveland.

Those screw terminals kept loosening up from vibration in a commercial freezer installation, but the spring clamps have held solid for 6 months now with zero issues, has anyone else made the swap for high-vibration spots?

Just realized fiber optic cables can degrade from too much bending even if they look fine on the outside

I read a white paper from Corning last month that said a tight 90 degree bend can cause micro-cracks in the glass that kill signal strength over time, and now I'm double-checking every corner I ran in a new apartment complex downtown last week.

My habit tracker fell apart after just 3 days

I started a new habit tracker in my bullet journal on Monday, and by Wednesday the whole thing was a mess. I made the boxes too small and my pen bled through half the page. Had to rip out that spread and start over with a simpler design. Has anyone else had to scrap a layout mid-month and start fresh?

Question about the "don't judge a book by its first chapter" advice

My book club buddy told me to always finish a book before forming an opinion, so I slogged through 400 pages of a novel I hated from page 10. Turns out the ending was just as bad and I wasted 3 evenings on it. Has anyone else had a book that got way worse after you forced yourself to keep reading?

My POS system crashed during the lunch rush on Friday

I run a small taco spot in Southwest Detroit and last Friday our card reader just died at 12:30 PM. I had a line out the door and could only take cash. I spent 45 minutes scribbling down orders on napkins and running back and forth to the bank. Finally found an old Square reader I had in a drawer that saved me. Anyone else have a panic moment like this with their payment system?
