Shoutout to the old timer at the Pittsburgh steel show who told me to stop fighting the mold

I was struggling with a stubborn sand mold for a gearbox casting, adding more binder and getting mad, when this guy from a retired shop walked over and said, 'Kid, the sand is talking, you just ain't listening.' He showed me how a single tap with a mallet in the right spot made the whole thing release clean. How many of you have had a simple piece of advice from a veteran totally change how you do a basic job?

Watched a buddy wrestle with a sticky hydraulic cylinder for an hour. An old mechanic saw him, took the snap ring pliers, and just turned them over. The clip popped right out. Said you push to seat it, pull to remove it. My friend's face was priceless.

Ugh, that's everywhere. People get stuck on the wrong approach and just dig in deeper instead of stepping back.
