I used to think all those oversized blazers were just a lazy trend, but seeing my friend's tailored version in Chicago last week completely changed my mind.

Her custom piece, which took a local designer 2 weeks to make, had structured shoulders and a nipped waist that actually flattered her frame, unlike the boxy fast-fashion ones that just look sloppy.

Yeah the "structured shoulders and nipped waist" part is the whole key. Most off the rack stuff just hangs there. I tried on like eight blazers last fall and they all made me look like a kid playing dress up. Found a local tailor who does adjustments for under fifty bucks, took in the waist and shortened the sleeves on my favorite one. It went from meh to my most worn jacket. Totally worth the extra step.

Tbh I get the love for tailoring, but the whole point of the oversized blazer for me is that slouchy, effortless look. A nipped waist kind of defeats the purpose. My favorite one is just a giant men's blazer from a thrift store, and the way it hangs loose is exactly the vibe.

Wait, but doesn't a thrifted blazer that fits well give you BOTH vibes? @joel_jones, you can keep the slouchy feel but a quick tailor trip fixes the sleeves so you don't look swallowed. That structure just makes the "effortless" part actually work.
