Rant: My neighbor asked me to lie about his dog being off leash

Last Tuesday, his husky got loose and chased a kid on a bike, but he begged me to tell the park ranger we were just playing fetch with a long line. The kid was fine, just scared, but I stood there for a full minute just frozen. Do you cover for a friend's mistake when it could put someone at risk, or is the truth always the right call no matter what?

Man, I've been there. The second you lie for him, you're on the hook forever. I told my buddy no when he asked me to cover for his dog, and yeah it was awkward for a week, but now he actually uses a leash. You gotta shut it down hard.

It's part of a bigger problem where people ask you to help them hide their mess. @spencer782 is right about the risk, and covering for stuff like that just makes it normal. The truth gets harder the longer you wait.

That husky could have really hurt that kid. You should never lie about something that serious.
