Had a major steam machine mishap during a facial in Portland

I was doing a standard facial at my station in the Pearl District last Tuesday, and my steam machine's hose popped off right as I was about to start the extraction phase. Steam went everywhere, including towards the client's face, and I had to quickly shut it off and apologize. I ended up finishing the extractions with a warm towel compress and a manual tool, which actually worked out okay. Has anyone else had a piece of equipment fail mid-service and what was your backup plan?

Honestly, how often do we all just assume the machines will work perfectly every time? Piper's story about the cold water jet is too real, it's like they have a mind of their own. Tbh that moment when something breaks is pure panic, but it forces you to remember the basic skills that actually matter. I've found clients sometimes like the manual fix even more because it feels more personal and careful.

My buddy's wax warmer caught fire in Beaverton last month, lol.

Oh man, that sounds like a scene from a slapstick comedy! Glad the client was okay and you pulled it off with the towel compress. My steamer once made a sound like a dying goose and shot a jet of cold water at a client's chest. We just had to laugh it off and I switched to a hot stone massage for that part. It's amazing how often the old school methods save the day when the fancy gear quits.
