I bought a $150 thermal paste kit and it was a total joke

Saw this fancy kit online with five different pastes and a special spreader tool. Thought it would help with tricky laptop repastes. Used it on three different machines, a Dell, an HP, and an old Asus. The temps dropped maybe 2 degrees, same as the $8 tube I always use. Felt like a complete sucker. Has anyone else fallen for a 'pro' tool that did nothing?

Why does nobody talk about the pressure to post new art every single day?

Last month I saw a post from an artist in Chicago who said they felt burnt out after trying to keep up with daily uploads for a year straight. I realized I was doing the same thing, posting sketches just to fill my feed instead of sharing finished work I was proud of. How do you guys balance staying active online with actually making good art?

A retired architect in Savannah changed how I think about title blocks

I was working on a set of plans at the public library last month when an older gentleman leaned over and pointed at my title block. He said, 'You know, back in my firm, we always put the project number in the lower right corner, not the left. It made filing a thousand sheets so much easier.' He was a retired architect named Robert, and that one small tip about organization has saved me hours of searching already. Had a major steam machine mishap during a facial in Portland

I was doing a standard facial at my station in the Pearl District last Tuesday, and my steam machine's hose popped off right as I was about to start the extraction phase. Steam went everywhere, including towards the client's face, and I had to quickly shut it off and apologize. I ended up finishing the extractions with a warm towel compress and a manual tool, which actually worked out okay. Has anyone else had a piece of equipment fail mid-service and what was your backup plan?

Trying to fix a squeaky floorboard turned into a three hour hunt

I had one noisy board in my hallway that drove me nuts every morning. I thought it was a simple nail pop, but after pulling up the trim I found a cracked joist hanger from when the house was built. Has anyone else had a tiny noise lead to a much bigger structural find?

I finally gave in and tried the zip tie trick for stuck caliper pins

For years I thought it was a hack fix and just kept hammering them out, which sometimes took an hour. Last Tuesday on a 2012 Civic, the lower pin was completely frozen even after heat and penetrant. A guy at the parts counter said to loop a small zip tie around the pin head and yank it with locking pliers. I was desperate, so I tried it. The pin popped out in maybe two minutes with way less fuss. What other simple tricks have you guys picked up for stubborn parts that actually work?

Rant: People keep saying my first memory is impossible because I was a baby

My strongest early memory is from when I was maybe two. I was in my high chair and my mom was feeding me mashed peas. I remember throwing the spoon and it stuck to the wall because she had just painted it and it was still a little sticky. Every time I tell this story, someone says 'You can't remember being that young, your brain wasn't developed.' But I know it's real because my mom confirmed the paint story years later, she said she was so mad the spoon left a mark. That memory made me trust my own gut about things even when other people doubt me. It's a tiny, weird moment, but it's mine. Has anyone else had a super early memory that people tried to tell you was just a story you heard?
