Appreciation post: I thought the 'five minute journal' was just a fad until my friend in Denver made me try it

She gave me one as a gift and said to just do it for 30 days. I was sure writing three things you're grateful for each morning was silly, but after about two weeks, I caught myself feeling less stressed on my drive to work. Has anyone else had a simple habit they doubted that actually made a real difference?

Okay but did you also start getting weirdly excited about finding new things to be grateful for, like perfectly toasted bread? I tried one of those journals and my first week's entries were basically just different ways of saying "coffee." Felt like a total hack until I realized my bar for a good day had gotten comically low, and honestly, it kind of worked.

It's funny how lowering the bar like that can actually rewire your brain to notice the good stuff more.

Honestly, that sounds like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. Forcing positivity can just make you ignore real problems that need fixing. It feels like a quick fix that avoids dealing with the actual hard stuff.
