Why does nobody talk about how explaining blueprints to family helps you spot errors?

My sister wanted to understand the plans for her kitchen remodel. I walked her through each symbol and line on the paper. She pointed at a window placement that looked odd to her. I checked and realized I had mislabeled the dimension. Now I always ask someone to look over my drafts before finalizing.

Explain your blueprints to family; they spot the obvious errors.

Isn't it common for beginners to notice what experts miss? I read a case where a designer's spouse spotted a costly error in room measurements. That outside look can save a lot of trouble.

Yeah, explaining it to family is the real test. I once showed my kid my kitchen plan and he just pointed at the fridge and said "but the door opens the wrong way." I had to redo the whole corner. Sometimes you need a ten-year-old to tell you the thing you stared at for weeks is stupid.
