Vent: I just saw a stat that only 22% of digital nomads actually use a VPN daily
I read it in a survey from SafetyWing, and it honestly shocked me given how much we rely on public wifi. Anyone else have a basic security habit they think more of us should adopt?

Honestly that 22% number sounds about right to me. I travel full time and almost never use a VPN on public wifi. The risk is way overblown for most people. I'm not logging into my bank at an airport, I'm just scrolling social media or reading the news. If I need to do something sensitive, I just use my phone's data plan. A VPN slows everything down and costs money for a problem that mostly isn't real for casual browsing.

Totally get the "risk is way overblown" feeling, I used to think the same. But I had my Instagram account hijacked once just from checking it at a coffee shop. Someone got in and started messaging people. It was a huge pain to fix. Now I run a VPN all the time on public networks. The good ones don't slow things down much anymore, and I'd rather have it on and not think about what I'm clicking.

VPNs can give a false sense of security if you're still logged into accounts. The real weak spot is often reusing passwords, not the network itself. A password manager does more to stop account takeovers for most people.
