My neighbor's dog got loose during my morning shift and I had to choose between work and helping

I was getting ready for my 7am Zoom call when I heard my neighbor screaming for help in the front yard. Her golden retriever had slipped his collar and was running straight for the busy main road. I had 3 minutes before my meeting started but I couldn't just ignore that, so I sprinted out in my slippers and chased the dog for 2 blocks. I finally caught him by the old baseball field but my laptop was still inside unlocked. My boss sent me a nasty message about missing the first 10 minutes. How do you balance being a decent person against keeping your job?

Hard disagree. You made a choice to prioritize someone else's problem over the thing that literally keeps a roof over your head. That dog has an owner who should've had a better collar, and your boss doesn't care about your good deed when you're late.

And this is exactly why society is broken when we VALUE productivity over basic HUMAN decency.

Hot take but your job pays your bills and the dog wasn't your responsibility.
