Shoutout to the $100 a day rule for Southeast Asia

Right? It's like those guides are written by people who think travel is a punishment. Surviving on rice and beans in a hostel while you watch everyone else go on adventures isn't a budget, it's a sad vacation story. You gotta factor in actually doing the things that made you want to go there in the first place. Otherwise you're just eating cheap noodles in a different time zone. My rule is to save up a bit longer so I can say yes to the cool boat trip instead of just staring at the water from the shore.

I finally figured out why my tent was always damp inside

That's such a common mistake, isn't it? We get told to make everything taut to fight the wind, but then we trap all our own wet air inside. Makes you wonder how many other little tips like that get passed around and just become camping gospel without being right.

My aunt told me to get rid of anything I hadn't used in a year. So I threw out a perfectly good waffle iron.

That's why I keep a maybe box in the garage first.

Just saw a dryer vented straight into a crawl space at a house in Bakersfield

Had a friend buy a house where the dryer vent just blew into the wall cavity behind the laundry room. They lived with a weird smell for months before a repairman found it. The insulation behind the dryer was completely black with mold and soaked through. The fix ended up being a lot more than just running a new vent hose. They had to tear out drywall and replace studs. It's scary how much damage a simple mistake can cause over time.

My 12-inch miter saw blade chipped on a walnut crown molding cut yesterday, so I had to finish the last 8 feet with a handsaw and a shooting board.

My Diablo blades have lasted through three oak flooring projects.
