My credit union's 5% card vs my old bank's 'rewards' card was a no-brainer

The credit union card gave me a real limit increase after 6 months of on-time payments, while the bank card's 'points' were impossible to use. Anyone else find big banks just dangle rewards to hide terrible credit-building terms?

Big bank cards have way better fraud protection and customer service lines, though. Those points can add up if you actually travel.

Hold times are brutal everywhere now. Those travel points often come with huge annual fees that wipe out the value unless you're flying every other week.

My friend's big bank card got cloned last month and their fraud line put her on hold for 45 minutes. She missed a whole afternoon of work just trying to get it sorted.
