That permit application took 8 weeks longer than I planned

I wanted to open a small retail spot on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit. Nothing fancy, just a place to sell vintage furniture. I figured the city permit would take maybe 3 weeks. Eight weeks later I was still chasing paper. Every time I called someone said I needed a different form or a signature I didnt have. I ended up going down to the office three separate times in person just to talk to a real human. The guy at the desk finally told me to bring all my documents at once and wait there while he looked them over. It took 4 hours in a chair but I walked out with approval that same day. Has anyone else had the city hold up their plans way longer than expected?

Tried chip readers back in 2015 vs swiping. Chip still feels slower.

I remember when my bank first sent me a chip card in 2015. I was at a Target in Austin and the terminal took like 10 seconds to process. Swiping was maybe 2 seconds max. Fast forward to now and chip readers are still slower at some gas stations here. I get the security upgrade but the speed trade off is hard to swallow. Has anyone else noticed certain stores where the chip reader just drags?

Finally finished Severance after 3 tries and it clicked hard

I kept starting the first episode of Severance and falling asleep around the 20 minute mark, no joke. The pacing felt so slow to me and I couldnt get into the office vibe. But last weekend I had a rainy Saturday with nothing else to do so I forced myself through episode 3. Something just unlocked in my brain after that and I binged the whole season in one day. The way the story slowly puts these puzzle pieces together is wild, by the end I was yelling at my TV. I learned that some shows just need a specific mood or time of day to really grab you. Has anyone else had a show they had to start multiple times before it finally took off?

Can we talk about how I finally broke my book hoarding habit?

Went to a library book sale in Richmond last month and almost brought home 20 books. But I stopped and actually looked at my shelves at home first. Saw I still had 8 books from the last sale 2 years ago that I never opened. It hit me that I was buying books just to have them, not to read them. So I made a rule that for every new book I bring in, I have to donate two old ones. Now I only buy a book if I plan to read it that same week. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of book overflow? How do you manage it?

I used to think spending $180 on a heated driveway mat was dumb. Now I get it.

Honestly, after the first snow I just plugged it in and the ice melted away without any salt or shoveling. It paid for itself the first time I didn't have to chip ice at 6am.
