Update: my old boss swore switching to night shift would wreck me, three years later I'm still on it
He pulled me aside in the parking lot in 2019 and said I'd burn out inside six months, mostly because he hated it himself and quit after two. Now I sleep 7 hours, make $4.50 more an hour, and actually see my kids before school. Anyone else get a warning like that and go the other way?
Some people just can't handle nights and assume nobody else can either. My brother in law did the same thing to me, said I'd be a zombie in a year, but I've been on graves for four years now and my blood work is fine. The trick for me was keeping the same sleep schedule even on days off, because the second you flip back to normal on the weekend you're cooked. Sounds like you already figured that part out.
