I used to think childhood piano lessons were a waste until I hit 30

My mom made me practice for 7 years and I quit at 14 hating it, but last month I sat down at a friend's upright and played a Chopin prelude from memory without thinking. It felt like unlocking a part of my brain I forgot existed. Anyone else rediscover a skill they resented as a kid?

Yeah for real, that E minor one. It's weird how muscle memory just sits there dormant for over a decade. I've noticed this with stuff like cooking too. My dad made me learn how to properly dice an onion and make a basic roux when I was like 12 and I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. Now I'm the one my friends text when they burn their garlic and need a quick fix. Your brain just seems to hold onto the stuff you practiced until your hands hurt, even if you think you forgot it completely.

That Chopin prelude - was it the one in E minor everyone learns first?

Crosswords for me. Hated doing them with grandpa, now I do them on my lunch break.
