Just realized my old boss was right about using a heat gun on those Dell laptop hinges

He told me to warm the plastic around the hinge with a heat gun on low for 45 seconds before trying to pry it open. I thought it was overkill and cracked a case last year. Tried it his way on a Latitude 5420 yesterday and the whole bezel came off clean. Anyone have a different trick for those stubborn plastic clips?

Honestly, that heat gun trick is a total game changer. I learned the hard way too, snapped the corner clean off a ThinkPad trying to muscle it open cold. Now I keep a cheap one in my kit just for laptop plastic. It feels like cheating, the way those clips just let go after a little warmth. Saves so much money on parts you would have broken for no reason.

Heat guns seem like a lot of fuss for some plastic clips.

Totally get that, but hear me out. It's not just about the clips, it's about not breaking the whole panel they're stuck to. Yanking cold plastic is how you get expensive cracks. A quick blast of heat lets the clip give way cleanly. Saves a ton of headache and replacement costs later. Feels like extra work upfront but it's the difference between a five minute job and a three hour nightmare.
