Dropped $300 on a proper thermal camera and it just paid for itself

Found a failing VRM on a gaming rig that was just out of warranty, a spot that was 15 degrees hotter than the rest of the board. The client was about to junk the whole system. Anyone have a favorite model for this kind of diagnostic work?

Oh man, that's awesome. I saw a video where a guy found a bad cap on a power supply with one, saved a whole server rack. Those things are magic for weird heat issues.

My old landlord's boiler had a tiny hot spot the plumber found with his camera. It's wild how a little extra heat in one spot points to a much bigger problem.

Yeah, that's a solid find. Just to add to what robin591 said, those server rack issues are usually from bad caps, but VRMs failing from heat is way more common in gaming PCs. My FLIR One has been perfect for spotting those.
