Wait, they didn't even offer you a free t-shirt or anything? That's wild. I get what finley_gonzalez49 means about the one exception, but still. You're giving them a whole brand identity they'll use for years. My rule is I'll do the work for free if they cover the cost of a nice lunch for me while I'm doing it. It shows they value the time, even if they can't pay.
