I tried that new 'deconstructed' steak place in Phoenix last week

They served the meat, sauce, and sides all in separate little bowls. It felt like a puzzle, not a meal. The server said it was 'interactive dining', but I just wanted to eat my food, not build it. It cost me $75 and I left hungry. Do any other chefs think this trend is getting silly?

Honestly, is everything just a project now? It feels like we can't even eat dinner without it being some kind of activity. I get this same feeling when I buy furniture that needs a million steps to put together. Sometimes a thing should just be the finished thing, you know? I'm tired of paying more to do the work myself.

My last deconstructed meal needed assembly instructions.

Actually, that's the whole fun of it though. It turns eating into a puzzle. Like a deconstructed burger where you stack the patty, cheese, and toppings yourself. It makes you think about each part and how it all fits together. Makes the meal last longer and you appreciate it more. What's the worst that could happen, you put the pickles under the bun?

Okay but you said "makes the meal last longer" like that's a good thing. Sometimes I'm just hungry and want to eat, not solve a food puzzle. It turns a simple thing into a chore. I don't want to appreciate my burger like it's art, I want to pick it up and taste it all together without doing construction work first.
