I finally got my drainage ditch to actually drain after 16 hours of digging

Hit a clay layer 2 feet down that was basically concrete and had to rent a mini excavator for the day to bust through it, anyone else ever run into surprise hardpan when trenching?

My opinion on ride-sharing apps shifted after a trip to Chicago last spring

I used to think Uber was way more reliable than taxis, hands down. But after getting stuck in a surge that cost me $65 for a 10 minute ride while a cab would have been a flat $20, I started seeing it differently. Now I flip between both depending on the time and place. Has anyone else changed their mind after a specific bad experience like that?

Why does everyone keep buying storage bins before they declutter?

I see people on here posting pics of their new matching bins and I'm like, you haven't even emptied that closet yet lol. Last week my neighbor bought 10 bins from Target and filled them with stuff she hasn't touched in 5 years. Has anyone else noticed this pattern?

Hot take: I think SXSW stopped being about Austin tech years ago

I went to my first SXSW Interactive back in 2009 and it was all local startups in that old convention center. Now it's just big brand activations and people trying to sell you crypto, I barely see anyone from 6th Street companies anymore. Last year I counted maybe 5 Austin-based booths out of 200 in the main expo hall. Am I the only one who misses when it felt like our scene instead of a traveling circus?

Broke my dads fishing rod 12 years ago and never told him

Snapped the tip on a cedar tree at Lake Merwin back in 2013. I just put it back in his garage and pretended I never touched it. Anyone else still carrying around something small like that you should have apologized for ages ago?

Sensor wire got chewed through by a rat in a crawlspace last Tuesday

I was finishing up a new install in an older house out in the suburbs. Everything tested fine until the homeowner called me back two days later saying the back door sensor was false alarming. Crawled under there and found a rat had gnawed right through the 22/2 wire near the corner. Had to splice it back together and wrap it in some steel mesh conduit I keep in the truck for situations like this. Anyone else run into rodent damage more often than you'd expect?

Old timer told me to quit sanding with the grain every time.

He said I was wasting time. Showed me to go diagonal with 80 grit, then switch to with the grain for finish. Cut my sanding time on a oak table by half. Tried it on a cherry desk last month. Worked perfect. Anyone else get told to change their sanding pattern?

I finally broke my own rule about dream anxiety

Last night I dreamed my car brakes failed halfway down a hill near my house in Austin. In the dream I just accepted it like "welp, this is how it goes" and woke up totally calm. But then this morning my actual car started making grinding noises when I hit the brakes. I ignored it for like 10 minutes thinking it was just leftover dream nonsense. Has your dream logic ever bled into real life and made you do something dumb?

I chose airbrush makeup over traditional foundation

About 6 months ago I decided to switch from my usual liquid foundation to an airbrush system for clients at my salon in Portland. I found the coverage was lighter but way more consistent, and it cut my application time in half. Has anyone else made the jump and had a different experience with it?

PSA: That customer who said 'just check the oil' almost cost me my license

Had a guy come in last month at the Shell station off I-35, wanted a simple oil check on his old F-150, but when I popped the hood I found the brake line was rubbing bare against the frame and about to blow. He got real quiet when I showed him the metal shining through, then admitted he'd been ignoring a soft pedal for weeks.
