My boss told me my delivery notes were useless so I rewrote everything

I was working dispatch at a small courier service in Portland and thought I was being helpful by writing stuff like "leave at back door" for every stop. My boss pulled me aside after 2 weeks and said my notes were confusing drivers because I never said which back door at apartment complexes with 4 entrances. So I changed it to include unit numbers and building colors like "Building C, blue door near dumpster" and suddenly our late deliveries dropped by 30%. Has anyone else had a simple note system change how your team works?

I mean, are delivery notes really that serious? Like sure it's a nice improvement but a 30% drop in late deliveries from just adding building colors feels a little like bragging.

Yeah "feels like bragging" is a hot take but has anyone actually tested if adding building colors helps or hurts when the driver still can't find parking? I’m asking @elliot_gibson27, have you ever worked dispatch for a day to see how those notes get ignored in real traffic?

@elliot_gibson27 30% is real when you survive on tips. @wesley_jones colors matter if the building is a maze.
