I finally fixed a jammed shutter on a Yashica-Mat in my kitchen

Last night I was working on a Yashica-Mat 124G and the shutter blades just froze up after I oiled them. Turns out I used way too much lighter fluid and it gunked everything. Has anyone else dealt with sticky blades from over-cleaning?

Too much of a good thing always backfires, whether it's lighter fluid or hot sauce!

lighter fluid is a tricky thing man. I did the same thing on an old Canonet once and the blades looked like they had a sticky film all over them. Ended up having to take them all out and give each one a gentle wipe with a lint free cloth. @the_diana is right though, too much of a good thing really does mess stuff up. A buddy of mine once used way too much lubricant on a sewing machine and it seized up completely. Took him hours to clean out the gunk. Lesson learned the hard way with these old cameras.

Yeah I've seen that same pattern with all kinds of stuff. People think if a little works, a lot must work better. But with cleaning solvents and lubricants, it's the opposite every time. @the_diana's point about too much of a good thing applies to half the things we do around the house, from plant water to laundry detergent. I've got a friend who floods his cast iron pan with oil thinking it makes it nonstick, and he just ends up with a sticky mess every time. So it's not just cameras, it's pretty much anything with a mechanical part.
