My mortar mixer belt snapped halfway through a patio job in Phoenix last Tuesday

I was mixing a big batch for a herringbone pattern when the motor just spun free. The belt was only six months old, a Gates PowerGrip. I had to run to the supply house for a new one, which cost me $45 and an hour of lost time. Has anyone found a more reliable belt brand for daily mixing?

You’re not alone here. I had the same Gates belt snap on me after about 8 months in the Vegas heat. Switched to the Goodyear Eagle PD based on a buddy’s recommendation and it’s been on the mixer over a year now with zero issues. @betty_kelly9 is right that six months in Phoenix is rough, but the Goodyear seems to handle the dry heat way better. Worth the swap even if it costs a few bucks more upfront.

Wow, my Gates belt gave out in just four months during a Tucson summer!

Heard a similar story from a buddy who swears by the Goodyear Eagle PD belts now. He runs two mixers non-stop for pool decks and said he got over a year out of the last one, even through last summer. Claims the rubber compound handles the dry heat better without getting brittle. Might be worth a look before your next supply house run.

A Gates belt only lasting six months in Phoenix heat is wild.
