I thought our book club picking 'The Overstory' was just going to be a boring tree lecture

For real, I saw that 500-page book about trees and almost skipped the whole month. But our group leader in Charlotte made us read just the first three chapters before we judged. Those opening stories about the chestnut tree and the family farm completely hooked me. I finished it in a week and cried at the end, which I never do with books. Now I'm the one telling everyone to read it. Has a book ever totally changed your mind like that, where you went from hating the idea to loving it?

I mean I felt the same way about Cloud Atlas at first, it looked so confusing with all the different stories. My friend made me push through the first section and once I got how they all connected I was totally hooked. Sometimes you just need to give a book a real chance before dropping it. @nguyen.lily I get why you'd be surprised about crying at a book, I used to be like that too. But when a story really gets its hooks in you it just hits different.
