Spent 6 hours chasing a temperature swing on my WSM 22

Thought my gasket was shot, checked that. Then the door seal. Then the intakes. Turned out my charcoal was stacked uneven and it was channeling. Anyone else spend way too long on a simple fix?

Uneven charcoal is always my first guess, never last. Rookie move.

... I mean, calling it a "rookie move" feels kind of harsh, @joel_jones. Sometimes charcoal just doesn't cooperate no matter how careful you are, y'know? I've had bags that were totally inconsistent straight out of the box, even after sifting. And honestly, bad airflow or a clogged grate can mimic uneven charcoal perfectly. It's not always user error, sometimes the gear just fights you.

Oh @joel_jones, you ever try grilling on a windy day and still call it a rookie move?
