Poured concrete paths beat flagstone every time in my yard

After laying 800 square feet of flagstone last spring I spent all summer pulling weeds from the cracks. Swapped to a stained concrete walkway this year and zero maintenance for half the cost. Anyone else regret going with natural stone for patios?

Did you sand the joints or just pack them with dirt? That makes a huge difference in weed growth.

Honestly I gotta push back on the "sand washes out" thing. Packing joints with dirt is what causes the weeds to come back in my experience. The sand settles into all the gaps and actually locks the stones together over time. Plus dirt holds moisture and seeds so you're basically inviting stuff to grow right there. If your sand is washing out you might need a bigger grit or maybe your base layer isn't compacted enough before you add it.

Nah I've had better luck just packing them with dirt honestly. Sand always seems to wash out too fast for me.

Dirt packs tighter and stops weeds way better in my shady yard honestly.
