My neighbor said my new deck looked like a pirate ship

I built a big deck with a weird railing I thought looked cool. My neighbor Frank came over, looked at it for a minute, and said, 'Looks like a pirate ship, matey.' I laughed but then I saw it. The posts were too tall and the rails were all curvy. I tore it down that weekend and rebuilt it with straight, simple lines. Anyone else get a piece of feedback that made you start a project over?

Honestly that pirate ship comment would have stuck with me too. Sometimes you just need that outside eye to see what you're blind to. My cousin told me my living room paint color looked like a bruise, and I couldn't unsee it after that. Good on you for just starting over, it's the only way to get peace of mind. I get what @simonp76 is saying about the white tile, sometimes simple is just better than what you thought was cool.

Tore it down that weekend" is so real. My brother came over, looked at my new kitchen backsplash, and just said "looks like a dirty subway station." I was trying to be fancy with these dark grey tiles. He was right. Spent the next two days chipping them all off.

Honestly I used to think dark tiles were classy until my own Reno last year. Ngl @david_jones38 your story just convinced me to go with white subway tile instead.
