The moment my GPS rerouted me into a dead end street...
Last week I was driving to a park for a hike I'd never been to before. My maps app suddenly decided to reroute me down this tiny gravel road in the woods... and it just ended at a locked gate 15 minutes later. I had to back up half a mile with no cell signal and find the way myself by reading old paper signs. Has anyone else had an algorithm send them into a total dead end like that?

Jumped right in to share a similar story, @kelly385 - except my GPS once sent me down a road that was more of a creek bed. I mean, I was driving through actual water for about two minutes before I realized this was not a road at all. Had to laugh at myself for thinking "it'll probably get better around that next bend" (spoiler alert: it did not). The algorithm must think I drive a monster truck instead of my beat up old sedan with 200k miles on it.

Did you catch that article about how GPS systems sometimes use old or incomplete data, especially in rural areas? It mentioned that algorithms prioritize the fastest route, not necessarily the most drivable one for everyday cars. Sounds like your experience was a classic example of that glitch.

Oh boy, my GPS once sent me down a path that was basically a glorified hiking trail. Had to laugh at myself for trusting a little blue line over common sense.
