Shoutout to the moment I saw my student loan interest hit $5,000 this year alone

I mean, I knew the number was big, but seeing that specific figure for just the interest, not even the principal, made me finally get on the phone with a counselor to look at my repayment options, has anyone else had a number that finally pushed them to act?

Wow, five grand just in interest... that's a whole separate bill on its own. Like what @william_harris said about his car payment, it's crazy when the fee for having the debt costs more than actual things you own. Seeing a number that big would make my stomach drop.

Watching my interest charge hit more than my old car payment was the kick I needed. It was like a monthly bill for the privilege of having debt, which felt completely backwards. I spent a whole weekend just staring at different repayment calculators online, my eyes glazing over. That specific number made it feel real, not just some abstract problem for future me. Honestly, it was a depressing way to find motivation, but it got me moving.

My student loan interest hit $280 last month, more than my electric and water bills combined. Seeing that breakdown on Mint was a gut punch. I started throwing every spare dollar at it, even skipped a couple concerts.
