Tried to watch that new 'epic' fantasy everyone's raving about...

Stopped forcing myself through shows that feel like homework. Found this crime drama that opened with a car chase through a grocery store and I was just sold immediately. Sometimes you need that instant hook to make you care about the characters later. Now I drop anything that doesn't grab me in the first twenty minutes.

I swapped to a 9-speed chain on an old 8-speed drivetrain and it actually got worse

Is it really that big of a deal? Chains wear out and get replaced all the time. Seems like a minor thing to get hung up on.

Watching my neighbor's kid build a model plane made me think about our work

My buddy Jake at the old shop had a trainee finish a full avionics check on a Cessna last year. The kid was so proud of the clean paperwork he printed out. Jake had a weird feeling and made him physically touch every single connection point from the start. They found a data bus plug not fully seated, just hanging by a thread. It would have failed in flight. Now Jake’s whole team does a dumb hands-on check of the first three steps on every job, no matter how good the paperwork looks. It’s boring but it catches those little things.

Question about those cheap color swatch books

Those swatch books are basically fancy lies on paper lol. I had one where the "ash brown" looked like a nice neutral and it came out straight up green on my friend. It's like they design them under magic fairy lights that change everything. You're better off looking at pictures of real hair online, the swatches are just expensive coasters at this point.

Working on the Columbia River last spring, I saw a cutter head get completely jammed with old logging cables. Now I triple-check the survey maps for ANY marked debris.

Tell me about it, I had something similar happen last year. The stress just eats away at you for weeks. Really hope it gets sorted out soon.
