Broke cafe policy to call a customer about his heart pills
Yesterday at the cafe, Mr. Jenkins, a sweet older regular, left in a hurry after his coffee. I found his bottle of heart medication on the table. Our store has a strict rule against contacting customers for lost items to avoid privacy issues. But I knew Mr. Jenkins relies on these pills, and missing a dose could be serious. I remembered he once gave his number for a delivery, so I used it to call him. He was so relieved and came back right away, saying I might have saved him a hospital trip. My manager found out and didn't scold me, but it made me think about when rules should bend. What do you all think? Is it okay to break policy for someone's well-being?
