inMy Alaska trip showed me a new trick for cold weather checks
In Fairbanks, most mechanics I know would laugh at calling that a genius trick. Keeping tools warm is just basic up here. We use heated toolboxes or just bring them inside overnight. That method probably adds extra steps. Real pros keep it simple to avoid issues in the cold.

inJust realized most finishers seal too early, and I get better results waiting a day.
Used to rush sealing everything right away thinking it was better. Now I see how letting it fully cure overnight makes a huge difference in the final look. Definitely worth the extra wait.

inMy governor cable scare last Tuesday
Totally agree that visual checks aren't enough for cables. What worked for me was pulling the sheath back to expose more inner cable, then bending that section gently by hand. You can feel any rough spots way better that way without stressing the housing.

Smart move, those taps basically trick the threads into thinking they're still turning together. Real mechanics know when to bend the rules a little.
