My dad and I used to count stars from our porch. Now, the sky is just orange.
When I was a kid, my dad and I would sit outside and pick out stars every night. Today, the glow from streetlights and houses washes out most of them. Some say this light waste is a small issue compared to things like car pollution. Others believe that losing our night skies hurts both animals and our sense of wonder. For example, birds get confused by bright lights and crash into windows. I'm stuck between letting it go or pushing for rules to use softer, directed lights. How do you all see this trade-off between bright nights and a healthy planet?
