My laundry dilemma in the tiny house made me rethink appliances.
I used to think a washer-dryer combo was essential for my tiny house. After trying hand-washing, I found it's more manageable than I expected... what's your take?

Oh man, I totally get this. I was so set on getting a fancy combo unit for my tiny place too, convinced it was the only answer. Then my old one broke and I had to hand-wash for a couple weeks while saving up. Honestly, it was way less of a pain than I built up in my head. You just do a small load in the sink while you're doing other things, and hang it up. It freed up so much space and saved me a huge chunk of money I almost spent. It just sort of became part of my routine.

Ugh, reading what hill.margaret said about hand-washing hits home. I went the other way and bought a small portable washer for my place. Honestly, it was such a hassle to hook up and drain every single time I used it. I spent more time messing with hoses and worrying about leaks than I did actually cleaning clothes. It totally made me see the appeal of just using the sink like she does. Sometimes the simple way is just better, even if it feels like a step back at first.

Those little portable units seem like a great idea until you're ankle-deep in sudsy water. I tried a spinner dryer gadget once and it was more trouble than it was worth. Going back to the basics with a washboard and some elbow grease was oddly satisfying.

My buddy Sam got one of those countertop washer things last year. He sent me a video of soap bubbles pouring out from under his kitchen cabinet, just a total flood. The drain hose popped off mid cycle and he was mopping for an hour. He said the quiet satisfaction of just using a bucket and a plunger washer after that was unreal, like he beat the system.
