Warning: That 'ethical' AI hiring tool my company used backfired big time

My company rolled out this AI screening software from HireVue last quarter, promising it would remove bias from hiring. I was skeptical from the start, but then I read a report from the ACLU showing how similar tools penalized candidates who spoke with regional accents during video interviews. After three months, we hired five people and four of them came from the same two zip codes, which made me wonder if the algorithm just learned our old patterns. Has anyone else seen these tools actually introduce new kinds of unfairness instead of fixing the old ones?

Wow, that sucks. Doesn't sound ethical at all.

Feels like they're banking on nobody calling them out.

Hear me out, I actually think there's some good intentions here. Maybe they're trying to keep things simple and avoid a bunch of confusing small print. I work in a place where the owner tried to be super upfront about stuff and got roasted for it, so sometimes people just want to make things clear without getting sued. It might look sketchy but it could just be them trying to be straight with people.
