My brother told me to quit being picky about cheap tools
Last summer my brother said just buy the $15 socket set at Harbor Freight, it'll be fine for a weekend job. I used it to swap out my alternator on a 2002 Civic in Tulsa. The 10mm socket cracked on the third bolt and I had to drive 20 minutes to borrow a real set from a neighbor. Has anyone else been burned by taking that kind of advice?

One time I bought a cheap camping hatchet to split wood for a fire, and it bounced off the log and hit me right in the shin. Never borrowed that neighbor's socket set though, he kept it in a greasy milk crate.

Man, I used to be the guy telling people to just buy cheap tools. I figured a socket's a socket, right? I learned my lesson the hard way too. Bought a budget breaker bar to change my truck's tires and it snapped on the first lug nut. Almost took my knuckles clean off. That day I drove straight to the tool truck and paid way more than I wanted to. Now I tell everyone the same thing you learned: some tools you just can't cheap out on, especially when safety or your time is on the line.
