Why my living room redo taught me a key startup branding rule

I was repainting my living room last month and picked a bright color. It looked good at first, but soon it felt too much. This showed me how my startup's branding was too loud too early. I now believe in starting simple in business, like with paint. Your brand should not shout if it has no voice yet.

But sometimes you gotta be loud to get heard.

Loudness matters most when you're new and unknown. Once you're known, like @leoc97 found out, simplicity builds trust. A tech startup might use bright colors to stand out at a conference. But a law firm? They keep it clean to look pro.

My first logo was forest green and it looked cheap. Switched to black text on white, sales went up 20% that quarter. Loud only works when people already know what you do.

Forest green looked cheap? That's the color I use on my work trucks.
