Warning: I thought a cheap moisture meter would be fine for a quick check

It gave me a false dry reading on a slab in a basement job, and I ended up eating the cost of a full tear-out and reinstall six months later. Lost about $3,200 on that one. What's the most reliable meter you guys actually trust?

But come on... how often does that really happen? Seems like a freak thing.

Freak thing" is way too kind, it happens more than you'd think. What meter do you actually use for basement slabs?

Honestly, you see it all the time with cheap moisture meters. A pin-type meter is the only real way to check a slab before you put flooring down. Anything else is just guessing.
