I was driving through a historic neighborhood in Savannah and noticed all the original wrought iron fences are still standing after a century.
It got me thinking about how we build things now versus then, and what kind of fence I put up today will still be there in 50 years, you know?

My fence from the big box store started rusting after one season. Maybe we should just stop building fences and start building time machines to go steal the old ones.

Honestly that sounds like a bad batch or maybe the coating got scratched during install. Tbh most of those big store fences last a few years if you treat them right. Building a time machine seems like way more work than just hitting the rust with some spray paint. It's a fence, not a car, a little rust isn't the end of the world.

Rusting after one season is pretty bad though.
