Spent $50 on a parking spot downtown and got towed anyway
I paid for a spot through the ParkMobile app near 5th and Main in Portland, but the sign said no parking after 4 PM. I thought the app covered it, but the tow truck came at 4:15. Did I miss something obvious or is this a common trap in busy areas?

The real catch here is that a lot of parking apps don't actually check city time limits. They just process your payment and assume you know the rules. So the app let you pay for a spot that was illegal to park in after 4 PM. That's a system designed to make money off confusion, not help you avoid tickets. Portland's parking enforcement is known for being aggressive around those time change windows too. Have you ever tried disputing the tow with the app company or did you just pay the fee?
