Swore my neighbor's compost pile was just trash, then he handed me a tomato

I thought this guy was nuts dumping coffee grounds and eggshells in his backyard. Smelled like a dumpster behind a diner for two weeks. Then he gave me a tomato from his garden last August that tasted like summer, not like the watery ones from the grocery store. I started my own pile in a plastic bin after that, and now I get why people do it. Has anyone else had a random neighbor convince you to try something you were dead set against?

A tumble bin costs like 80 bucks though.

Started mine with just a plastic bin and kitchen scraps, worked perfectly.

@sage_green I get that starting simple works for some, but I've seen too many plastic bin setups go bad fast. Wet, stinky mess with no air flow. A cheap tumble bin or even a drilled bucket with a lid makes a huge difference. You avoid all that sludge and the smell stays way more manageable.
